ROCK AGAINST ABUSE 2010.

A benefit concert in support of

Objective. To raise awareness on issues of domestic abuse and family violence.

To raise funds that will help CWES support their programs.

Did you know that?

  • This week, between 3-5 children in every classroom in Calgary will witness their mothers being assaulted. Mixed Sources.
  • Over the past year, the Calgary Police Service spent more time responding to greater than 15,000 calls about family violence than to any other crime. Mixed Sources.
  • Over the last five years, one quarter of all homicides in our city resulted from domestic violence. Mixed Sources.
  • Alberta has the highest rate of reported family violence in Canada and leads the country in domestic assault, homicide-suicide and stalking? Statistics Canada, General Survey, 2004
  • Since the age of 16, 51% of Canadian women report having experienced at least one incident of physical or sexual violence. Ministy of Children's Services - Prevention of Violence and Bullying
  • In Canada, 21% of women abused by a partner were assaulted during pregnancy with 40% reporting that the abuse began during the pregnancy. Statistics Canada, Family Violence in Canada, 1999
  • 1 in 4 cases of child homicide the household had been involved in some time reported family violence. Statistics Canada, Family Violence in Canada. A Statistical Profile 2001.

ABUSE IS ANY VERBAL OR PHYSICAL ACTION USED TO CONTROL OR HARM SOMEONE. IT CAN BE PSYCHOLOGICAL, FINANCIAL, PHYSICAL, SEXUAL, CULTURAL OR EVEN SPIRITUAL ABUSE. FAMILY VIOLENCE IS ABUSE AT THE HANDS OF SOMEONE CLOSE TO YOU. THIS COULD BE YOUR PARTNER, ADULT CHILDREN, PARENT, IN-LAW, FRIEND, SISTER OR BROTHER. PEOPLE WHO ABUSE DO SO AGAINST THE WILL OF THEIR VICTIMS, WHO NEVER ASK OR CHOOSE TO BE ABUSED.

CLIENT TESTIMONIALS (Rehearsal)

"What can I say? Premiere rehearsal studio in Calgary. Comparable to the big leagues in CA. I moved here from CA in 1999, couldn't find a descent one. Then Sound Loft opened, if I'm not mistaken, months later, and I've been with these people since then. Amazing jam space! Clean, friendly couple running the place, all equipment provided for a small fee, rock and roll! I recommend it to all artists. You can rent equipment too and they provide sound production for your gig!" --- Phil J.

“Sound Loft is an excellent practice space, rooms are well equipped and include the PA and drum kit which is excellent. Rentals etc are also available if you need them. I would continue to use them to get an excellent space in which to practice. The sound proofing and equipment are really excellent. There isn't much that you need to do (even down to providing an input cable for MP3 players already attached to the mixing board, that was excellent!). Thanks for the space, every time we come out it's a great experience!” --- Jim Bourne

"The studio provides excellent rehearsal space and good gear. It's convenient and reasonably priced. The owners are very helpful and respond quickly to booking requests. It's a no hassle way of practicing without having to move equipment around or having to rent permanent space." --- Dr. Gerald Zamponi

“It's a great place to jam; great people, great atmosphere and a good deal! There is definitely a great community of musicans that use the place... very chill and very open. Because we got tired of the cops shutting our jams down at guy's house!... It's a good deal. $20 a head for 3 hours jam, we don't have to bring our amps, 'cause the stuff at the studio is pretty good... all mic'd in with the studio monitors, etc. You guys are the best... It didn't take long for the studio to feel like "ours". You definitely have our support.” --- Todd Wallace

"Manny & Merly have 4 studios available for almost any size band to rehearse and they are all kitted out with great equipment (Fender & Marshall amps as well as PA's, mixers & drum kits in each studio). Just bring your guitar & a cord & plug in." --- Dave Allen

"My hobby has been playing guitar for many years. Sound Loft adds way more to my enjoyment." --- Bill Rowe

“Manny, Thanks for all your help! It was great to have someone who knew what he was doing!!!” Blessings, --- Justin Macosky (Forest Lawn United Church event, Sep. 5, 2009)

“Hi Merlina, Manny, Thanks again for such a fantastic job with all you have done to get our show off the ground. The feedback that we have received has been very positive.…It really was a pleasure working with you both… you made it so easy, allowing the band to concentrate on the music and not worry about anything else.” --- Dr. Stu Turner (Docs That Rock, Charity social event, June 8, 2009)

"It was a successful gig with excellent sound production. Thanks again to Manny, Dale(Jethro), and Eric for all their work." --- Dr. Stu Turner (Rockyview Hosp Emerg Dept fundraising event, Jan. 29, 2010)

Manny - great job last night - thanks for all your help! --- Simon Haynes (Kensington Road Live! May 15, 2010)
